Biography
Violeta García (born 1990) is a cellist, improviser, and composer from Buenos Aires, Argentina, living alternately in Switzerland, Barcelona, and Buenos Aires.
She is active as a performer in many art forms, including free improvisation, contemporary and transmedia experimental repertoire for cello and electronics, and occasional collaborations with dancers, filmmakers, and visual artists.
After years of studying classical and popular music on the cello and later contemporary composition and improvisation, Violeta realized that her own musical voice needed to unfold outside of specific genres. This led to her interest in improvisation, composing and creating new sounds, experimenting with extended techniques and prepared instruments, and working with dynamic, rhythmic and original melodic combinations in her intense and emotional performances.
She has been selected for several international residencies:
Art Omi in New York, Ibermúsicas for an installation at Convent Zero in Barcelona, Fondo Nacional de las Artes at CampusMusical in Bariloche, ArtBasel at the Faena Art Center with Naama Tsbar (Israel), Música Maestra at the CCK.
Violeta García has performed with renowned artists from the free improvisation and experimental music scene in various cities around the world and has collaborated with various dance and theater companies.
Violeta García released her first solo album, ACERO, on the Argentine label TVL REC in 2018, for which she composed pieces for a prepared instrument, with field recordings inspired by her childhood. Her second solo album, FOBIA, followed in 2022 on the label RELATIVE PITCH RECORDS (NYC).
Her third solo album, entitled IN/OUT, was recorded in a cave in Geneva that once housed the city’s water reservoir.
On the initiative of the renowned Swiss record label BONGO JOE RECORDS, Violeta García explored the resonance of that space, resulting in a musical spectrum ranging from minimalist contemporary music to dark ambient sounds. The album IN/OUT has been released in March 2025.

After years of exploring classical and popular music on the violoncello, as well as delving into contemporary composition and improvisation, Garcia presents IN / OUT, an album that pushes the boundaries of musical convention. Recorded in an underground reservoir in Geneva, this unique project transforms the site’s natural acoustics into an integral part of the compositions.
