Biography
The brothers Andi & Hannes Teichmann, also known as Gebrüder Teichmann, are electronic musicians, DJs, and the driving force behind various music-related projects and events.
Since the late 1990s, they have been deeply rooted in Berlin’s underground scene and DIY culture, driven by a lively curiosity and love for music and sound.
Andi & Hannes began DJing around 1995 in their hometown of Regensburg, where they also organized their first parties and started producing electronic music.
Early club-oriented releases on labels such as Kompakt, Disko B, and their own imprint Festplatten marked their entry into the club scene and brought them to perform in initial clubs and festivals as such as WMF Club, Panorama Bar, Tresor, Robert Johnson, Rex Club, Sonar or Fusion Festival. At the same time, their ongoing exploration of different scenes and traditions gradually expanded their musical context beyond the club. Over time, this grew into a global network of artistic collaboration and cultural exchange. For Gebrüder Teichmann, music is a social practice. Their performances turn clubs and concert spaces into temporary communities.
Their DJ sets reflect these three decades of personal journeys, shared experiences and influences across continents and traditions, spanning from Chicago House, global subcultures, contemporary music to electro-acoustic experimentation.
Their live performances range from club sets to concerts with musicians, ensembles, orchestras, and interdisciplinary groups. As live musicians, they seek the organic and direct interweaving of analog electronics and acoustics.
Offen in site-specific spatial settings, places are turned into immersive sonic spaces where audience, performers, and environment are able to interact directly.
As live and recording artists they´ve been collaborating with numerous artists from various backgrounds and traditions and artists like Robyn Schulkowsky, Staatsoper Berlin, Sandeep Bhagwati, Ensemble Modern, Omnibus Ensemble, Wura Samba, or their father, multi-instrumentalist Ulrich Teichmann.
They initiate and develop international cooperation projects that connect musicians, artists, and institutions, such as the Goethe-Institute across continents. Often designed as open laboratories they bring together participants from different artistic and cultural backgrounds.
Up today they have worked in more than 60 countries, including Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Kyrgisztan, Kenya, Nigeria, Angola, Mexico.
Their label NOLAND reflects this approach and marks their path from the underground to what they call the “Interground.”
Since 2015, Hannes Teichmann has been hosting the Audiovisionen series for live electroacoustic music at the Kulturraum Zwinglikirche in Berlin.
