Biography
Violeta García (born 1990) is an Argentinian cellist, composer and improviser with an eclectic musical background.
She is a graduate of UNA (Universidad Nacional de Artes) and currently lives in Bern, Switzerland, where she is pursuing a Master’s degree in Composition at the Bern University of the Arts (HKB, Bern University of Applied Sciences BFH).
Her artistic search is based on exploring the sonic limits of her instrument and everything that surrounds it. Her work focuses on the exploration of acoustic sounds and her performances are visceral and exuberantly charged. She is currently working on an expanded body of work that combines acoustic/electric sounds with experimental sound design.
She has been selected for several international residencies:
Art Omi in New York, Ibermúsicas for an installation at Convent Zero in Barcelona, Fondo Nacional de las Artes at CampusMusical in Bariloche, ArtBasel at Faena Art Center with Naama Tsbar (Israel), Música Maestra at CCK.
Violeta García has performed with renowned artists from the free improvisation and experimental music scene in various cities around the world. She has worked in various dance and theatre companies.
Violeta García released her first solo album “ACERO” in 2018 on the Argentinian label TVL REC, for which she composed pieces for a prepared instrument, with field recordings inspired by her childhood. Her second solo album “FOBIA” followed in 2022 on the label RELATIVE PITCH RECORDS (NYC).
On her third solo album entitled IN/OUT, composer and cellist Violeta Garcia uses extended cello techniques during a recording session in a Geneva cave that once housed the city’s water reservoir. The composer worked with the resonance of the site as a sounding body and used microtonal techniques in a musical spectrum ranging from minimalist contemporary music to dark ambient noise. Initiated by the renowned Swiss record label BONGO JOE RECORDS, García explored this special space and began composing. The album IN/OUT will be released on February 7, 2025.
